About 25 kilometres east of Cape Town's centre, toward Stellenbosch in the Tygerberg highlands, sits Bellville, which is part of the Cape Peninsula urban region. The city offers breath-taking views of the Stellenbosch Mountains, Kogelberg Range, and Winelands.

HistoryÂ
Originally, Bellville went by the names Hardekraaltje and Twelfth Mile Stone, Maitland Road. Farmers bringing their products to Cape Town used it as a wagon stop.
Bellville, which was formed in 1861 and took its name from the Cape's surveyor-general, Charles D. Bell, was built on the Tygerberg's slopes. In 1940, it became a town, and in 1979, a city.
The University of the Western Cape was founded in Bellville in 1960. A gravel track from the suburb of Welgemoed leads to the Tygerberg summit, giving magnificent views of the Cape Flats, Table Mountain, and the interior mountains. Cape Town International Airport is located 10 km southwest from the city.

The Northern suburbs experience winter rainfall and windy conditions, the warm summers are mild with temperatures between 25-30 degrees Celsius. Enjoy long summer nights with sunset being approximately around 8:00 pm.
